![]() ![]() Squarespace recommends uploading images between 15 pixels wide. To therefore satisfy several different standard image sizes, upload an image that’s big enough to reduce without losing resolution and small enough to comfortably fit the width of a standard screen. Often, the website builder will resize images for you so that they display correctly in several different formats. When you’re working on a website builder or content management system (CMS), like WordPress or Squarespace, the image size requirements will vary according to the theme or template you’re using. If you’re uploading images on the web, it’s crucial to understand image size specifications because incorrect image sizes may stretch or distort to fill fixed dimensions. For instance, an image sized at 1920×1080 pixels has an aspect ratio of 16:9, and an image sized at 1280×720 pixels also has a ratio of 16:9. It’s important to note that two different images that have the same aspect ratio may not have the same image size or dimensions. You can measure image dimensions in any unit, but you’ll typically see pixels used for web or digital images, and inches used for print images. Image size equals the dimensions of an image. Unlike aspect ratios, image size determines an image’s actual width and height in pixels. The most common dimension in this aspect ratio is 1080×1920 pixels, which equates to a smartphone’s vertical screen size. 9:16 RatioĪn inverse of the 16:9 ratio, the 9:16 ratio is popularly used for social media platforms with video story capabilities, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. This international standard recently replaced the 4:3 ratio for monitors and TV screens, creating a slimmer, more elongated rectangular shape compared to the 4:3 format.Ĭommon resolutions in the 16:9 ratio are 1920×1080 pixels and 1280×720 pixels. The 16:9 ratio is mostly seen on presentation slides, computer monitors, or widescreen TVs. Always keep the context and composition in mind when choosing an aspect ratio for your project. The standard 16:9, which is horizontally oriented, displays differently than the more recent vertically-oriented 9:16 aspect ratio. Similar to image aspect ratios, the video aspect ratio has a profound effect on its composition. When printing 8″x10″ and 16″x20″ images, you’re sticking to the 5:4 aspect ratio. Last but not least, this ratio is mostly common in photography and art prints, and large and medium format film cameras. Images framed at 1080×720 pixels or 6″x4″ are set within this aspect ratio. ![]() The 3:2 ratio has roots in 35mm film and photography, and is still widely used for print sizes. ![]() This aspect ratio is commonly used for print photographs, mobile screens, and social media platforms, but it’s not ideal for most TV or digital formats. Some common 1:1 ratios are an 8″x8″ photo, a 1080 x 1080 pixel image, or typically any profile picture template on social media sites. It is crucial to keep the overall composition in mind when selecting an aspect ratio for your image.Ī 1:1 ratio means that an image’s width and height are equal, creating a square. The background in the 5:4 ratio takes up more space around the subject, placing the subject towards the bottom-left corner. a 5:4 ratio changes the composition and how the photo is perceived.įor example, the image below used in a square format-typical of social media profile pictures or Instagram feed photos-is distinct from the same image framed in a 5:4 ratio. Let’s go over some common aspect ratios that are typically used across different spaces.ĭifferent aspect ratios have a different effect on the image being used. Having an incorrect aspect ratio for your project can affect the end-user experience. When you use the right aspect ratios, it ensures your images or videos are displayed as intended without stretching or loss of resolution. The relationship between its width and height determines the ratio and shape, but not the image’s actual size.Īspect ratios are a critical part of web content because images need to be uploaded at different aspect ratios for different uses, like desktop vs. This means that an image measured in centimeters will have the same aspect ratio even if it was measured in inches. For instance, a 6×4 inch image has an aspect ratio of 3:2, whereas a 1920×1080 pixel video has an aspect ratio of 16:9.Īn aspect ratio does not have units attached-instead, it represents how large the width is in comparison to the height. You’ll recognize it as two numbers separated by a colon in an x:y format. The aspect ratio of an image or video is the proportional relationship of the width to the height. What is an aspect ratio? Let’s start there. ![]() ![]() Walls of the school have graffiti scrawled across them with hateful jeers and juvenile taunts, notes found along the way tell the story of how people suffer with this all too real problem, and little displays can be found around the school of mannequins frozen in time as they bully the victim stand-in. Bullying is given a big focus in the plot and the construction of the alternate city. The horror of the game isn’t all creature designs though. ![]() They reveal their true face if you approach, and with their unusual movements and seeming inability to be permanently killed, these definitely stand out in a small set of creatures with some already good concepts on show. Simple in concept, these little dolls have some absolutely chilling voices that break the silence of the world with deceptively innocent calls to be your friend. Some of the boss monsters definitely have some memorable designs, the projectionist creature’s spider-like movements and movie projector mouth giving its large humanoid shape more impact, but the best on show might be the doll mannequins. The raven-headed versions aren’t quite as scary due to being a fairly plain concept, but these are essentially more capable versions of the regular monsters and their audio cues are more ethereal compared to the human mutterings of the basic creatures. The basic foes already have an incredibly distinct look, the shadowy figures having upside down faces with massive fangs and bodies covered in orange welts that give them a sickly look. In fact, Gylt’s low difficulty level does imply it is meant to appeal to younger players looking for a scary experience, and the monster designs in Gylt definitely have an interesting style to them. The horrors of Gylt’s alternate city manage to find themselves on a line where they can be effective to people of all ages without featuring any of the gore or themes that would alienate younger players. Sally looks the most different between the scenes, her in game model having a wide head with brown hair while her cutscene version has a slimmer look and hair that looks black due to the limited coloring choices, but this isn’t so distracting that it will pull you out of the plot or the light horror experience on offer. This story is often told in hand drawn cutscenes that seem to be quite different from the game art. However, among this world of horrors, she spots her missing cousin, so Sally must safely evade the creatures as she tries to rescue Emily and take her back to the regular world. While canvasing the town with missing posters, Sally stumbles across a cable car that takes her to a strange alternate version of the city where it has been devastated by unknown forces and strange monsters patrol the land. Gylt follows a young girl named Sally whose cousin Emily has mysteriously disappeared. Gylt could have been a white whale, but two free months of Stadia Pro allowed me to access it, and even though I had to go through some goofy hoops like downloading the Stadia app to change the streaming settings for how I play on PC, I actually got the game to a point where it was almost completely smooth and responsive, meaning I could properly experience what is, at the time of writing, Stadia’s only full on exclusive. This isn’t too much of a concern if Stadia receives no unique exclusives, but if Stadia is ever discontinued, it might be some time before we see what is the service’s single exclusive on any other system. The advent of Google Stadia introduces an all new wrinkle though, the idea of a game service where you can only stream a game rather than being provided even a digital copy for your own use. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are many road bumps on the path to playing every video game ever released, but even with the hardest to find games, there is usually someone out there with a copy or fans who have backed up the game in some form or fashion. ![]() ![]() ![]() And with a range of different types to choose from – including the A-style, with its punchy sound and compact body the F-style, with its rich, warm tones and ornate body and the bowl-backed, with its unique, curved shape and warm sound – there’s a mandolin out there for every player.Ī-style mandolins are typically the smallest type of mandolin, with bodies that are around 13 inches long and 8 inches wide. It has since received mass critical praise. The scriptwriting process took such little time to produce that Moffat claimed that Blink was such a "tiniest sliver" of his writing career that he couldn't remember making it. Because of its late submission, Blink was the quickest piece of writing Moffat had ever done, having gone straight from the second draft with no notes to the script and tone meetings before going into production ten days later. In a 2008 interview, he admitted that he had only just started realising that Blink was in fact "a really great episode". Believing he had "messed everything up", Moffat offered to "throw onto the grenade of the unpopular episode", referring to the Doctor-lite concept. Moffat had intended to write a two-parter earlier in the series but was too busy writing and executive producing Jekyll. It was also the second " Doctor-lite" story in BBC Wales Doctor Who, having come about out of a need in the production schedule for double banking. Based on an earlier short story by writer Steven Moffat, Blink introduced the Weeping Angels.
